Karyn Pierce currently holds the position of Special Education Director at Silo Public Schools, where her primary responsibility lies in catering to the needs of children aged 3 to 21. With extensive experience working with children with diverse disabilities, Karyn brings a wealth of educational expertise to The Payton Project. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science with a specialization in Mild/Moderate Disabilities from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, complemented by a Masters in School Administration obtained later on. Before assuming her role as director, Karyn taught in various classroom settings, ranging from self-contained rooms to resource rooms, across both Texas and Oklahoma. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct teacher at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, instructing undergraduate courses in Special Education. Karyn takes immense pride in her role as a teacher recruiter, overseeing student teachers, and contributing to the student teacher return day board. She finds great joy in accompanying her students to Special Olympics events and witnessing their competitive spirit firsthand. Interacting with her students on a daily basis, Karyn strives to discover the unique strengths within each of them, embodying a commitment to fostering positivity and growth. Beyond her professional endeavors, Karyn shares a fulfilling family life with her husband Justin and their two teenage daughters, Ryleigh and Kynleigh. Ryleigh, their eldest, recently graduated from Silo and is set to pursue her education at Drury University in the upcoming fall, while Kynleigh, their younger daughter, will be entering her junior year at Silo. During her leisure time, Karyn enjoys quality moments with loved ones, indulging in shopping excursions, and relishing outdoor activities.
